The sculpture is the aspect of craftmanship more developed in Val d’Aosta, region rich of wood and "ollare" stone. With wood it is possible to make "madie" and carving chests; "sabots", typical of Champoluc and of Valle d'Ayas; the "grolle" and glasses of frienship; toys and ornamental objects. The ollare stone is manufactured in Valtournenche and in Champorcher in order to make stoves, sculptures and crockery.
Wrought iron was used, initially, for the realization of agriculture equipments, cases and keyes, even if there are great artistic works also, like the fountain of Issogne's castel. Nowadays craftsmen are dedicating to furniture complements of country style.
In the region weaving is still done. In Valgrisenche "drap" is made, which is the characteristic row cloth of row wool, used in forniture. In Vallata di Champorcher the thinnest fibres of canapa become shirts and underwear. In Cogne the "dentelles" are made, so that: pillow lace with lino thread.
"Vannerie" is too spread, a weaving of sauce or of very thin slights of wood to weave chests and other boxes and cases.
On 30 and 31 of Genuary of each year in Aosta Fiera di Sant' Orso takes place, where all the craftsmen of this region show their works.
